JOHN COLTRANE — LIVE AT BIRDLAND — VERVE ACOUSTIC SOUNDS SERIES 180G

Live at Birdland captures John Coltrane and his legendary classic quartet during one of the most important periods of his artistic development. Recorded in 1963 with McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums, the album combines live performances from New York's iconic Birdland jazz club with studio recordings made shortly afterward at Rudy Van Gelder's legendary Englewood Cliffs studio.

The album features the quartet at a pivotal moment, just one year before A Love Supreme. From the commanding live performance of “Afro Blue” to the deeply moving “Alabama,” Coltrane's playing showcases the intensity, freedom, and spiritual depth that would define his later Impulse! recordings.

This Verve Acoustic Sounds Series edition is built for serious jazz and vinyl collectors. The album has been remastered from the original analog tape by Matthew Lutthans, pressed on 180g vinyl at Quality Record Pressings (QRP), and housed in a high-quality tip-on gatefold jacket. It's an excellent audiophile presentation of an essential Coltrane recording.
